Pre-Treatment Plant for Boiler Feed - Uskmouth Power Station
Location:
Uskmouth, Wales
Industry:
Power , Water
System:
ControlLogix and PanelView with Profibus and ASi networks
The Project:
Design and develop the control system for the Ultra-Filtration (‘UF’) pre-treatment plant for the Boiler feed reverse osmosis system.
The project involves the design, manufacture and installation of a Pre-Treatment Plant for the existing Reverse Osmosis (‘RO’) Plant at Uskmouth Power Station, Newport. The RO/Softening Plant currently treats the town’s water to a suitable quality for use as boiler feed water. The Power Station also takes in final effluent from the adjacent Nash Sewage Treatment Works for use within the cooling towers.
The UF treatment plant feed is to consist of a blend of three water sources:
1) Demineralised feed, the base load for the blend:
2) Cooling water (Nash STW final effluent),
3) Town’s mains water from the pressurised feed to the existing feed tank.
The new pre-treatment plant is intended to receive the individual feeds and blend them to provide a feed source for ultra-filtration treatment prior to treatment through the existing RO and mixed bed softener system.
The RO plant, which currently comprises two RO streams, will be upgraded to add a third stream as part of the project.
Our Solution:
The control system was designed using an Allen Bradley CompactLogix controller with a Profibus DP network to integrate the VSD drives and an ASi Master Controller. The ASi Controller provides two ASi networks used to integrate the field instruments. The control system also had an Ethernet network for communications to the HMI (PanelView Plus 1000) and site DCS system. The Ethernet communications were also used to transfer process information to the existing site controller (AB SLC500).
